Tantalizing Turks
When their 20th wedding anniversary was drawing closer, Miki and Dave Huntington knew they wanted to celebrate in a beautiful and memorable way. Although their go-to spring break getaway usually involves a warm-weather cruise, they chose to head to the breathtaking islands of Turks & Caicos.
According to Miki, for years they would say to themselves, “One day we’re going to vacation there.” They felt like this was a great “excuse” to finally do it.
The couple stayed at The Palms Resort. “It was absolutely perfect,” they said. “We were looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway with a beautiful beach and an elegant yet comfortable vibe. It had all that and more!” Miki says it lived up to its reputation of “laid back luxe.”
Miki and Dave loved being able to settle in at one location and actually taking in the amenities of the resort. “We were impressed with the wonderful food in Provo,” said Miki. “Lucky for us lobster was in season and we enjoyed it multiple times during our stay. There were so many other great restaurants in the area and we were able to dine at Parallel 23 and 7 West (both right on property), as well as Hemingway’s at a sister resort just a short walk down the beach.” Tips: Doing the notorious Thursday Night Fish Fry is a fun activity. And, be sure to make reservations in advance especially for weekends and popular hot spots like Coco Bistro.
For those travelers not familiar with Turks & Caicos, the archipelago consists of more than 40 islands and cays. They are known for the beautiful long white sand beaches and blue and turquoise waters with amazing visibility and water quality. Travelers from the US often vacation there because it’s on Atlantic time zone, is English speaking and using the US dollar as its primary currency.
Those and other factors made it very easy for Miki and Dave to enjoy the islands. Walking around Grace Bay is easy and safe (with stunning views!) and relaxing there is not difficult. “In between dips in the ocean, we mostly relaxed at the adults only boardwalk area of the resort,” says Miki. “The Palms had bikes and non-motorized water sports available free of charge, so we took advantage of it!”
The Huntingtons have traveled extensively around the world and say they would easily rank Turks & Caicos among the top Caribbean and beach destinations. For those considering Turks & Caicos, they recommend The Palms as well as the Grace Bay Club, which are both Virtuoso properties (meaning they received extra amenities by booking through Pique Travel).
Miki and Dave were very thankful to Pique Travel Designer Erin Green who knows the islands well. “It was so nice to have everything taken care of, from resort recommendations and flight arrangements to a handy Pique Travel booklet with all the details prepared for us,” says Miki. “This was our third time working with Pique and we look forward to planning our next getaway with them!”
