Imagine standing within arms length of a baby elephant as she drinks water under her towering mother? Pique Travel Design is proud to offer the Hides of Hwange. A luxury safari experience designed to give you a unique perspective unlike any other.
Guests will quietly observe wildlife from the comforts of a disguised shelter (hide) positioned near a water hole. The animals go about their natural routine and don’t even know people are nearby. Needless to say, the photographic opportunities from this close vantage point is unlike any other. If you have time to set down your camera you can even order a drink from the bar located inside the hide.
Day One – (Flights from USA to Johannesburg Airport, South Africa)
On this day, you will fly from the USA to Johannesburg on flights arrange by Pique Travel Design.
Day Two – (Arrival into Johannesburg, South Africa)
On arrival into Johannesburg Airport, as a perk, you will be met as a VIP in the Johannesburg arrivals terminal where on entry, you will find an airport staff holding a sign board with your name, assisted through Customs & Immigration and then assisted to a Love for Africa representative who will be awaiting assist you to your hotel this night across from the Johannesburg International Airport.
Check into the Intercontinental Hotel, OR Tambo where you are booked on a bed and breakfast basis for this night in preparation for your safari from tomorrow. If your flight arrives in the morning, we will schedule you for an afternoon Optional Soweto Tour not included in this package if you wish or can also just relax. The Soweto Tour is private and can run from 12H00 being the latest start time and we bring you back to your hotel by 17H00.
On this tour you will have an opportunity to experience Johannesburg, South Africa’s commercial and financial capital. We first take a look around the northern suburbs, and then continue to the hustle and bustle of Hillbrow and Braamfontein, home to the Constitutional Court of South Africa. We drive through the downtown area to the Carlton Centre, to view a “mini-Manhattan” from the viewing deck on the 50th floor. Onward to Soweto (South Western Township), largest black residential area in South Africa, where we see a fascinating contrast to Rosebank and Sandton in the north. This sprawling “city within a city” is home to approximately 2-million people, many of whom work in various parts of the greater metropolitan area of the Witwatersrand. Our tour includes all the major points of interest, such as Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Baragwanath taxi rank, Freedom Square, Hector Pieterson Memorial and Nelson Mandela’s former home. Proceed to visit the Apartheid Museum (closed on Mondays- time permitting). This extraordinarily powerful museum has already become the city’s leading tourist attraction, an obligatory stop for visitors and residents alike. The Museum, with its large blown-up photographs, metal cages and numerous monitors recording continuous replays of apartheid scenes set in a double volume ceiling, concrete and red brick walls and grey concrete floor After visiting the Museum, you will be transferred back to your hotel. Overnight at the Intercontinental OR Tambo Airport.
Day three – (Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe)
This morning after breakfast, you will walk across to the airport for your connecting flight to Victoria Falls where on arrival at the Victoria Falls Airport, you will be met after clearing Customs & Immigration by a Love for Africa Representation who will then assist guests onto an hour charter flight to Camelthorn Lodge which is nested in a patch of pristine woodland just west of Ngamo Area in Hwange’s National Park. The Lodge is unique in its style and design and has as its centre piece a huge ancient Camelthorn tree. One the edge too of Ngamo Plain, and strategically placed to explore the remote and unspoilt south eastern portion of the park, Camelthorn will also provide a spectacular wilderness experience. You will be here at this Luxury accommodation for four nights on an all-inclusive basis of at least two activities per day – laundry service, all meals, park fees & local beverages.

While there for two nights, one of your unique activities will be spend an afternoon or morning in Camelthorn’s hide in the Ngamo flei while you imagine and experience some animals coming to have a drink in the waterhole in front of the hide.
Day Five – (Little Makalolo, Hwange National Park)
This morning after your morning activity & breakfast, you will be driven to Ngamo Flei where you will be met by your guide from Little Makalolo for your game drive to Little Makalolo Camp where you will be for your next two nights on an all-inclusive basis of all your meals, activities and local beverages.
Little Makalolo lies in the heart of Hwange National Park, in one of its best game viewing areas, overlooking a vibrant waterhole. It offers privacy for guests who enjoy small camps and a sense of remoteness. The camp’s six traditional-style tents – including a family unit – are spacious and en-suite, with indoor and outdoor showers. Linking the tents to the main area are teak walkways. Here a false mopane tree in the centre of the camp shades a separate dining and living area, with an open fire area for those convivial evening fireside tales. There is a log-pile hide overlooking the waterhole in front of camp where guests can enjoy wildlife viewing during the siesta hours and pool for cooling down in the midday sun
While you are at Little Makalolo, on one of your afternoons or mornings, you will spend a few hours in the hide at Little Makalolo situated right in from of camp next to the waterhole giving you a second different hide experience in this amazing Hwange National Park.

Day seven – (The Hide Safari Camp, Hwange National Park)
This morning after your morning activity & breakfast, you will be driven to Ngweshla where you will be met by your guide from The Hide Safari Camp for your game drive to the Hide Safari Camp where you will be for your next two nights on an all-inclusive basis of all your meals, activities and local beverages.
Well known and much loved, The Hide Safari Camp is situated in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve, known for its abundant and diverse wildlife. Into its third decade, The Hide has justly earned its reputation as a great wildlife experience wrapped in welcoming hospitality. An award winning camp that one can rely on to live up to its high standards. Accommodation in well appointed deluxe tents, that all overlook a productive waterhole. All tents have en-suite facilities. The Hide prides itself on having knowledgeable enthusiastic guides to explore what Hwange has to offer. Up to 4 game activities per day – bush walks with a professional guide, day and night drives, ‘hide’ sits, there is much to see with over 100 mammals and over 400 bird species.
While you are at The Hide Safari Camp, on one of your afternoons or mornings, you will spend a few hours in signature hide with a wine cellar and beautiful bar underground situated right in front of camp next to the waterhole giving you your third different hide experience in this amazing Hwange National Park.
Day Nine – (Hwange to Victoria Falls)
This morning after your morning breakfast at a time to be advised, guests will be picked up and flown in an hour charter flight to Victoria Falls Airport where they will be met on arrival by a Love for Africa representative and driven to Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. This afternoon on arrival, you will have lunch in the award winning Makuwakuwa restaurant overlooking the vulture feeding and lunch this afternoon a perk.
This afternoon after lunch guests will be picked up at 16H00 for a Sunset Cruise on The Zambezi Explorer Signature Deck where guests will have enjoy a Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River this afternoon and on return to Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, dinner at own account this evening.
Day Ten (Victoria Falls Safari Lodge Zimbabwe)
This morning at 08H30 Guests will be picked up after breakfast and taken on a private guided tour of the Victoria Falls waterfall, one of the seven wonders of the world where you will return to Victoria Falls Safari Lodge for time at leisure and lunch at own account. This afternoon will be open for optional activities you may want to do as well. This night being guests last night in Africa, they will enjoy a Boma Dinner included in this package excluding drinks at their own account.
This morning guests will enjoy breakfast at leisure and at a time to be advised, guests will be picked up and transferred to the Victoria Falls Airport for their flight to Johannesburg connecting back to the USA.
